In it, the mythical goddess Venus is blown into the shore on a shell and received into the world on land. The story from mythology is far more detailed (and downright gross ... (From post-renaissance until just before pre-impressionist periods, classical art paintings were strongly figurative, including nudes. Classical art was almost (except for protraits) depictions of various religious / mythological themes. Such themes have always been vapid for me, "Full of sound and fury; signifying nothing.")
