Diana, Goddess of the hunt (see below)...

"... Evelyn De Morgan (late 19th century), an English painter, in the style of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, a follower of  pre-raphaelist Burne-Jones. Her paintings exhibit spirituality; use of mythological, biblical, and literary themes..."

(From post-renaissance until just before pre-impressionist periods, classical art paintings were strongly figurative,
including nudes. Classical art was almost (except for protraits) depictions of various religious / mythological
themes. Such themes have always been vapid for me, "Full of sound and fury; signifying nothing.")

"Nicolas Poussin [early 1600's]  was the leading painter of the classical French Baroque style, although he spent most of his working life in Rome.  /? 'His work is characterized by clarity, logic, and order, and favors line over color. / Until the 20th century he remained a major inspiration for such classically oriented artists as Jacques-Louis David, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Paul Cézanne.
He worked in Rome for a circle of leading collectors from there and elsewhere, except for a short period when Cardinal Richelieu ordered him back to France to serve as First Painter to the King. Most of his works are history paintings of religious or mythological subjects that very often have a large landscape element."
Cephalus and Aurora
1627-30
oil on canvas
96.5 x 130.8 cm

"Aurora, goddess of dawn, fell in love with the mortal Cephalus and tried to seduce him. He thought only of his wife Procris and rejected her. Poussin shows the cause of Cephalus' rejection of Aurora through the putto holding up Procris' portrait, ..."

(... this artwork is a good example of why I am not fond of art between the Renaissance and Impressionists periods, largely because of their continued needs to use "themes", usually mythology or religion; tales 'Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.')

Herbert James Draper, The Gates of Dawn

"Herbert James Draper ... was an English Classicist painter whose career began in the Victorian era and extended through the first two decades of the 20th century. (lots of other nudes also...) ... Draper's most productive period began in 1894. He focused mainly on mythological themes from ancient Greece."
