"Nicolas Poussin [early 1600's] was the leading painter of the classical French Baroque style, although he spent most of his working life in Rome. /? 'His work is characterized by clarity, logic, and order, and favors line over color. / Until the 20th century he remained a major inspiration for such classically oriented artists as Jacques-Louis David, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Paul Cézanne. He worked in Rome for a circle of leading collectors from there and elsewhere, except for a short period when Cardinal Richelieu ordered him back to France to serve as First Painter to the King.
Most of his works are history paintings of religious or mythological subjects that very often have a large landscape element."

based on my earlier acrylic oil painting; the
background is based on a classical painting by
Lucas Cranach the Elder, The Nymph of the Spring,
The Latin inscription warns, "I am the nymph of
the sacred spring. Do not disturb my sleep. I am
resting.". In Roman mythology, Diana (lt.
"heavenly" or "divine") was the goddess of the
hunt, the moon and childbirth, being associated
with wild animals and woodland...

I painted this picture in a loose "sketch"
mode, "Brit" probably about 6 or 8 years
ago, Spring Hill, Florida... The original painting is now for sale, $900.00 17 x 26 inches.
I've always liked to paint portrait-style
"people" and groups "ourselves", usually of
people I know, and not by commission ... I
like impressionist motifs, but prefer my own
more modern painting style, often using thin
paints to let the underlying light and
colors shine through .

I am a
realist at heart, and enjoy interpreting realistic
motifs in color and mood. My style includes
traditional methods applied in a casual-realist manner
usually a relatively thin underpainting, and using transparent glazes to enrich
colors and shadows. Recently I have also been doing some new prints and
paintings as mixed-media on paper and as direct
original digital images.

tomb of Lorenzo de' Medici in Florence, Italy. It is
part of a second pair (the second being Dusk),...

'unparalleled'/ influence on the development of Western
art ..." (shouldn't forget Leonardo,...)
The
Creation of Adam (Wikipedia) "...a fresco painting
by Michelangelo, which forms part of the Sistine
Chapel's ceiling, painted c. 1508–1512. It illustrates
the Biblical creation narrative from the Book of Genesis
in which God breathes life into Adam, the first man."

the ceiling, Adam is placed to the left, reclining
on his right arm with his left arm outstretched reaching
to the heavens. He is naked and muscular, lying
on the ground..." (I don't personally care for
Michelangelo as a painter; his figures are often too much
like "superman"; and Adam here looks dorky.)

is blown into the shore on a shell and received into the
world on land. The story from mythology is far more

Leonardo da Vinci was the "absolute master"
of the real figure; by comparison, much of Michelangelo's
paintings seem to me to be sort of "Superman" style...
Bacchus here, and Christ, below, look more real.
"Jacob spent the night alone in communion with God on a
riverside. There, a mysterious being—usually considered to
be an angel—wrestled with Jacob... " (This looks a bit
contrived... the angle looks like "its all in a days
job...", and Jacob doesn.t look like a serious
wrestler...)
